Pope, King Abdullah Condemn Syrian Repression

International pressure has begun to mount following recent condemnation of Syrian repression by Pope Benedict XVI and King Abdullah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Roman Catholic Pontiff condemned the deadly crackdown of anti-government protesters in Syria, advocating for immediate response to the legitimate demands of the protesters.
On the other hand, Saudi Arabia has threatened to withdraw its ambassador to Syria as a means of demonstrating the country’s condemnation of the repression going on in Syria.
A statement broadcasted by al-Arabiya television, King Abdullah said the crackdown on civilians demonstrating in Syria is “unacceptable.”
He stressed that “what is happening in Syria is not acceptable for Saudi Arabia.”
